Tea Time with Hats and Stories - Thursday, September 12, 2 pm to 5 pm

Ladies and Gents - it’s time to don that special occasion hat and join us for tea. Bring your boater, pillbox, fedora or panama. Every hat tells a story and we would love to hear yours. Do you remember your first hat purchase? What was it for? A wedding, a christening, Sunday church, a funeral, just for fun? A hat always makes me feel like I should pay attention to my deportment - don’t slouch, stand up straight, hold your head high. Not bad for something just sitting on your head.

One special occasion hat for me was my mother-in-laws nomination for an MBE (Member of the British Empire) for her long work record in the Civil Service. We had to attend the award ceremony at Buckingham Palace - a very long and somewhat tedious affair. I had a lot more fun trying to find a hat with a wide enough brim to cover my face so that I could fall asleep without being noticed. There’s definitely a family photo out there somewhere with us posing in the Palace grounds - and my hat looks pretty damn good!

Tea will be held on Thursday, September 12, from 2 pm to 5 pm. We will also be showcasing jewelry designed by Sarah Spivey, so if you’re looking for something unusual to accompany that special hat, you can browse at leisure.

Sarah Spivey - a young Eatonton resident - designs and makes her own jewelry, which she sells at numerous fairs around the country.
